New Developments
Development projects to produce useful new technology in electromagnetic measurements include:
Short-hop telemetry
- Connect by reliable wireless bridge between sections of the downhole tool string that cannot be wired directly
- Power-efficient technology that can work reliably to a significant distance: up to 100 meters
- Installation transmitter and receiver located within the tool string
Magnetic MWD
- Magnetic telemetry: perform EM telemetry without an electrical component; provides measurements bypassing the effects of formation: receive perfect
signal when drilling through non EM-passable formations of any thickness, including anhydrite and dolomite
- Magnetic MWD operates in horizontal and directional wells and has an operating TVD of up to 3km (9,000 ft), with unlimited operational measured depth
