The Utility Tool

An electromagnetic telemetry system designed to conduct utility drilling. The Cryoton system does not require any physical contact with the ground and can operate in any type of formation or in open air.

Cryoton Utility technology is in principle somewhat similar to standard walkover wireless telemetry but its unique design allows it to operate at a much lower frequency with an electromagnetic strength that is about 1000 times greater. As a result the system can transmit data from the underground location at far greater depths and distances and it is suitable for a wider range of applications of mid range directional drilling including utility river crossing and mining.

While operating the system generates a strong electromagnetic signal. This feature can be used not only for data telemetry, but also for independent location of the true position of the underground tool. This is achieved by using a set of surface EM receivers and does not require gravity inclination data at the location of the tool.
